The object of this exercise is to raise you awareness of your use of jargon. Working with a colleague or in a small group, take it in turns to explain ‘how to do’ something practical; a particular skill, hobby, game or sport, preferably one with which your listener is unfamiliar. The speaker should assume that the listener has minimal knowledge of the subject, and should speak without interruptions from the listener. Spend about five minutes each on this and then turn to the Appendix F at the end of this chapter for feedback questions and commentary.
